5 Remedies for a Sore Throat
BY: GEORGIA PRESSLEY
As a singer, it's very inconvenient to get a sore throat! So I have gathered some remedies to help you get over that sore throat and get back to singing. Whether it be an exam, practice or just some fun I hope these will help you out.
Mixed into tea or taken on its own, I have personally found that it soothes my throat and makes me able to sing within a few days. A fast recovery time is always the best thing!
Extra tip: Try placing honey in boiling water, but do not drink it when the water is boiling wait for it to cool down to at least room temperature before you drink it.
2. Salt water
Gargling salt water can be an effective remedy - don't swallow the salt water though, it can be unpleasant if you do! Make the solution with a half teaspoon of salt into a glass of water, it can help to reduce swelling and keep the throat clean.
Taking soothers can help to relax and sooth your throat when on the go. There are many different flavours to choose from, my favourite is honey and lemon just personally.
STAY AWAY FROM:
1. Fatty foods
Refrain from eating fatty foods such as red meat, full-fat dairy products and deep-fried foods as it can irritate your throat. Try instead to eat lean meats like turkey, fish, chicken and eat low fat diary products.
2. Citrus and acidic foods
Refrain from eating tomatoes, oranges, grapefruit, limes and lemon. The acids found in these foods can worsen your sore throat. Try soothing fruits such as bananas, melons, kiwi and peaches.
3. Spicy food
Refrain from eating food that contains hot sauce, chilli powder, curry, nutmeg, pepper and cloves, as it can aggravate and worsen your sore throat. If you still want flavour, try adding ginger which can help to not inflame your throat.
4. Coarse food
Foods that are rough-textured such as uncooked vegetables, granola and dry toast can scratch and worsen a sore throat so stay away where possible. Try to eat foods that easy to swallow soft and semisolid food such as cream based soups, yogurt, eggs, mashed potatoes, ice cream, smoothies and casseroles.
Hopefully this helps you guys, if you ever find yourself with a sore throat!
