Adventure Potential: My last day in Europe!
Outdoor Adventure Education student Cameron Southey is attempting to become the youngest motorcyclist to circumnavigate around the world during his placement year! He will be documenting his world-record attempt via blogs!
My last day in Europe!
After a busy couple of days I’m settled into a campsite just north of Gibraltar, doing my final preparations before I enter Africa tomorrow! 😱
That sounds glamorous, I’m just doing the washing really.
I can’t believe that Europe went so quickly, and that it’s time to really leave my comfort zone and explore somewhere new!
The last couple of days have been pretty eventful too. Since my last update I’ve stayed with Jay in the Salty Dog pub, Mojácar; he looked after me really really well and it was great to go for a ride too! He helped me in communicating with the local Spanish mechanics (he speaks fluent Spanish having lived in the area for ages), sorted me out with more beer and even directed me to an electronic store to get parts for the GoPro! If you are in the area you should definitely stop in for a shandy.
The ride from Mojácar to here was very uneventful, but very very warm and tiring. I stopped for a coffee and ended up having too as well as a caffeine sachet! Not worth falling asleep on the bike, so I overcompensated. My heart rate has finally dropped below 400bpm again though 👍
When approaching Algeciras it was as if I rode back into England; the landscape turned from deserty scrubland to luscious fields of green and even oak trees, mixed in with the palms. A cool sea mist rolled across the road and was deliciously cold to ride through. It made for a great photo of Gibraltar rock too 🗻
And if you didn’t see already, I managed to upload that YouTube video at long last! Check it out on my channel, I hope you all enjoy it.
Off to go and explore Gibraltar now! If anyone has any recommendations for the best place to get an ice cream please let me know, feeling bit deprived here.
