Finding a part-time job can help reduce financial pressures and add a range of valuable experience and skills to your CV. As you progress through university, we also encourage you to get work experience and a placement relevant to your course or career aspirations.
Finding work – 4 top tips
- Use the University’s Careers and Jobs Portal, set your alert choices to roles that suit you via the Careers Portal
- Update your college CV with information about your degree, work experience and skills. A professional CV or application form is key when applying to work
- Many students and graduates are head-hunted via LinkedIn so spend some time on creating a fully developed profile for job alerts and to get connections
- Add to your skills and join societies and sports clubs, be a Course Rep or University Ambassador.
Finding part-time work at University
- Hand out your CV to employers in Chichester: “Chichester Gate,” restaurants, fast food outlets, superstores and pubs.
- Look in the Bognor Regis Retail Park, stores like Lidl, Tesco, the Arun Retail Park, restaurants and hotels near the sea front.
- Earn money, gain skills and work on campus. The Student’s Union, Canteen, Open day teams, library and accommodation office employ students for casual roles.
- Check the websites of Butlins, West Sussex County Council, Goodwood Estate, Natures Way Foods, Chichester District Council and the CEGA Group.
- Place your CV on recruitment websites like Reed and Indeed
Finding a placement or volunteering whilst at University
- Use specialist placement sites such as RateMyPlacement, The Big Choice, Milkround, Targetjobs and Student Ladder.
- Connect on LinkedIn with people working at a company or role you might like a placement in.
- Investigate a placement in Europe, funded by the Erasmus+ programme.
- There are great places to search for exciting volunteering roles through Charity Job, Do-It, V Inspired,

Finding work for after University
- Register early with sites like Prospects, Targetjobs, Milkround, Best Graduates, and GRB.
- Keep an eye on these graduate employers and their application deadline dates.
- Search the website of particular companies to find their graduate roles.
- Use LinkedIn to search for alumni from your degree and others working in a career you are interested in.
- Apply for a professional mentor to give you in-sight into the world of work, how to apply and make connections.
Before you apply
- Research the job and company you are applying to, and tailor your application documents to the role, to persuade them to interview you.
- Build a well-rounded professional CV. Volunteering, societies, sports teams, placements and a course rep all look great to employers.
- Write an appealing cover letter to set you apart in the application process.
