Solving the 5 stresses of student life

By BzAimee 04 Nov 2018

We all know what it feels like to be stressed, especially as a university student.

Being a student isn't easy and if you're struggling with certain aspects of university life, we can guarantee you that you're not alone. On an average day, you might want or have to:

  • commute to university
  • get some assignments or revision done
  • go to your part-time job
  • spend time with your friends or family
  • see/speak to your girlfriend or boyfriend
  • have some time to yourself
  • stay updated with social media
  • keep a smile on your face

Don't know about you but doing all of that on a daily basis sounds pretty stressful to us! So, if your stress levels are starting to take over, this change in mood might be more serious than you think.

Rather than letting it get the better of you, identify the cause of your stress, and tackle it. Whether it's managing your money, meeting deadlines or just keeping in touch with your loved ones; we have some solutions!

1. Prepare

Make a timetable but DON'T overload. Prioritise what you need to do first and what can afford to wait. Keep time for yourself - it'll help you calm and rationalise what you need to do.

2. Sensible spending

Stressing about money doesn't mean that you stop buying your favourite things, you just have to be practical with what you can afford to splurge on. It's worth downloading a budgeting app if you're really struggling.

3. Talk to someone

Try talking to a flatmate or friend about your worries because chances are, they're feeling the same. Isolating yourself will only make things seem worse.

4. Take control

You are the only person in control of your life so take control and if things are getting too full on, cut back. It might be your week to host 'Movie Night' but push it back a week if you're feeling the pressure.

5. Be positive

You wouldn't have made it to where you are if you weren't capable of it so just try to remain positive wherever you can and remember, you can do it!

Bonus tip: Be sure to get enough sleep and know when to put your phone away and have a break. Spending too much time scrolling through Instagram will only make you more stressed out!
