Top Tips for House Hunting!

By ParisSaltBlogs 25 Nov 2018

Ready to Rent?!

The University of Chichester runs a fantastic scheme to help with moving out of halls. This scheme provides students with access to a bank of landlords and properties that are secure, up to standard and not a rip-off. Keep an eye out for the housing fairs and stay on the lookout for more information. Remember! If you rent privately through an agency, you may have to pay expensive fees and the university won't be able to help in dealing with the landlord if things go wrong. Play it safe and stick with ready to rent!

Feeling Rushed?!

No need! It might seem daunting to move out and find a new place, but it is not. There is lots of support available and the university is always there to offer advice! Don't get pressured to sign the first the place you see, there are a huge amount of properties going each year so you have a wide choice (and you can even stay in halls if you want to). Look around and get a feel for the places you are viewing! This is going to be your home for the next one or two years... choose carefully!

Who to Live With?!

Deciding who to live with is a big deal. You might think you know someone, but that all changes when you live with them. You might discover they get a new mug for each cup of tea... leaving a pile of 15 mugs in the sink! (this is worse than it sounds) Or they might be obsessed with cleaning rotas! Don't rush into picking your new house mates. Get together and have a sit down, discuss the aspects of living together and see if you are a fit. Better to find out now, rather than 2 months into a 1 year housing contract. You might have to spilt bills, is everyone happy with paying a equal share? Who gets the biggest room? How much fridge space do you get? Rules on eating other peoples food?

Most Importantly...

Don't worry and relax, take a minute to reassure yourself. You will find a nice place to live, and nice people to live with. University is all about new experiences and moving out properly is one of them. It is going to be a fun year, so enjoy it. :)
